The battle of Saratoga was two significant battles on October of 1777. This battle was a great victory for the patriots and was a turning point of the Revolutionary war. France entered the war against Britain and gave Washington is needed supplies and support. The British captured Fort Ticonderoga with ease and the British was led by General John Burgoyne. The Americans regrouped under Horatio Gates and to support him, General George Washington sent Benedict Arnold, his best infantry commander; Colonel Daniel Morgan and his regiment of riflemen; and two brigades of continentals from the Hudson Highlands. On September 19, Burgoyne attacked. For most of the afternoon the struggled around and across a clearing called Freeman's Farm. Arnold put in fresh regiments until Gates broke off the action, leaving the British possession of the ground. Burgoyne attempted another assault on October 7. Arnold join the fighting and fighting and led an attack that captured key strong points, forcing to retreat to Saratoga.

There were no battles at Valley forge but it still was a turning point in the Revolutionary war. The continental army were bloody, beaten, battle-weary and ready to quit. Even General George Washington said "If the army does not get help soon, in all likihood it will disband." Early in the six-mouth encampment, there was the cold, hunger, disease, and despair. Some couldn't take the cold, hunger and uncertainty any longer. In March, General Nathanael Greene was appointed head of the dismal Commissary Department and food and supplies started to come in slowly. By April, Baron von Steuben, transformed the beaten down troops into a fighting force. A new army that was anxious to fight the British and started to head to New Jersey. The Rebel army was transformed into a Mature army. Valley forge was where they trained their men and taught them how to survive in combat. They had farmland all around the camp but they couldn't have any because the farms sold their crops to the British, who paid in gold coins. Then the British would burn the food they didn't eat so the colonists couldn't have any food. Lafayette helped the camp by freely spending his own money to buy uniforms and guns for his men. Even though Lafayette had family in France but he stayed loyal to America and George Washington.
